On March 23, President Trump signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 (P.L. 115-141), commonly known as the "omnibus" appropriations bill. The new law provides the secretary of homeland security, in consultation with the secretary of labor, with the authority to approve additional petitions for admission under the H-2B Nonimmigrant Temporary Worker program. Decisive action is needed to ensure NRCA members can use the H-2B program to obtain the necessary workforce capacity in a timely manner for 2018 projects. The H-2B program is critical to many NRCA members, who often cannot find local workers to fill job openings during the busy summer season.
NRCA has posted an Action Alert asking NRCA members to urge Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen and Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta to help address workforce shortages by providing additional H-2B seasonal worker visas for 2018.
